Health Plans
Southwest ISD offers group health insurance coverage to all full-time employees through fully insured plans.   Employees have different health plan options from which to compare and select one that best meets their needs.  The district offers several PPO options, these products are open to employees and their dependents. The district's contribution is $325 per month toward the cost of any medical insurance plan purchased.  

Employees must elect coverage within the first 30 days of employment. Upon enrollment, all insurance benefits are effective the first day of the month following the date of hire.
Mental Health Services are provided through Aetna Behavioral Health.

TRS ActiveCare Plan Highlights

Please be advised that the TRS-ActiveCare Select plan will use a different Aetna provider network and function a little differently than the other two plans. For the San Antonio/Bexar County area, the Aetna network for the ActiveCare Select plan is “Baptist Health System & Health Texas Medical Group”. Participants in ActiveCare Select must use providers in this network for plan benefits. There are no out-of-network benefits, except in the event of a medical emergency as defined by the plan.

As a reminder, TRS-ActiveCare 1-HD and ActiveCare 2 will use the “Aetna Open Access Choice POS II” network which is
much larger. These two plans also have non-network benefits available.
You can search for Aetna network providers on the website listed below. Please carefully read the instructions provided on the website to choose the correct network for your search. If you have questions about TRS-ActiveCare coverage you can contact the Aetna/Caremark TRS-ActiveCare Customer Service team at the number listed below.

TRS-ActiveCare Medical Plan - Aetna
Call the TRS-ActiveCare Customer Service number at 1-800-222-9205. At the prompt, press 1 to connect directly to Aetna Health Representative, or visit the Aetna TRS-ActiveCare website.


TRS-ActiveCare Prescription Drug Plan – Caremark
Call the TRS-ActiveCare Customer Service number at 1-800-222-9205. At the prompt, press 2 to connect directly to a Customer Care Representative, or visit the Caremark TRS-ActiveCare website.

Elections and/or changes made to your medical plan during Open Enrollment will be effective September 1, 2015 and will be payroll deducted from the August paycheck.

REMINDER: Requirements of the Affordable Care Act – As of January 1, 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires you to have insurance for yourself and your dependents.
