Scholarship Guidelines |

Potential applicants must submit and attach all information (below) for consideration by using the on-line application process through this website. Each applicant must complete:
|

1. On-line general applicant information.
|
|
2. Two-page essay, submitted on-line. Two (2) pages using 12 point font, and double spaced. Essay should include the following information. |
|
A. Describe Personal Achievements. |
B. Potential for Future Achievement. |
C. Description of Positive Character Traits. |
3. How this scholarship cound assist you in achieving future aspirations. |
|
*Use Microsoft Word or Word Pad to write essay.
|
|
4. Two referral forms must be downloaded, completed in full, and submitted to the counselor. |

A. One from a HS Teacher |
|
B. One from a community member other than faculty or family. |
|
|
|
The HS staff will allocate computer use and scanning capability to assist all students toward completion of application and submitted work. Please visit the counseling or English Department for any assistance. |
|
Note: All parts of the application must be completed and submitted electronically by the deadline for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Attendance and GPA requirements must be met for consideration. |
Scholarship Eligibility |
|
Graduating senior - Must be enrolled entire senior year |
Overall grade point average of 2.5 on 4.0 college scale. |
95% attendance for Junior & Senior Years. Senior year will be adjusted for excused absences. |
Resident of SWISD |
Students of "Out of District" employee who has attended SWHS all four years, 9th through 12th grades. |
Scholarship Application Scoring Guidelines |
The following rubric will be used to grade each application accordingly. The application may receive a total of 100 points based on the content of responses. |

Two letters of recommendation, [30 Points] |
(One must be a former teacher, 15 points for each) |

Scholarship Amount/Time Parameters |
|
Scholarships will be awarded as follows: |
Scholarship Awards disbursed over a maximum of five (5) years. |
Scholarship amounts will be disbursed at semester increments contingent on schedule and GPA verification. Amounts of semester disbursements are equal distribution as determined by the DSC and documented in the Student Award Letter. |
|
Eligibility for continuation of semester disbursements: |
- Student must be enrolled full time in an accredited college/university/institute of higher learning, (full time or equivalent)
|
- (12 hours for the college/university semester drawing funding, parameters may differ for students attending institute of higher learning seeking certification or non-degree program)
|
- Maintain a 2.50 GPA or equivalent from the most current semester completed. (after 1st disbursement)
|
- Any portion of the remaining Category I scholarship monies not used after the 5th year, from the HS graduation date, will revert back to the SWISD Student Scholarship Fund.
|
- All scholarship awards are disbursed directly to the accredited college/university/institue of higher learning.
|
- Awards will not be disbursed to individuals
|
- Students must provide proof of registration, current class schedule and prior semester GPA to the HS bookkeeper with the appropriate district form. The form may be obtained from the district website and submitted to the HS bookkeeper with necessary attachments.
|
Scholarship awards mailed to the college/university/institute of higher learning must be accompanied with a letter denoting that any amount of the scholarship be refunded back to the SWISD Student Scholarship Fund if the student withdraws from classes. |
