II. Incident Reporting

Any staff member or student exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms during the school day will be immediately separated until they can leave the campus or be picked up by a parent.

Any person who is experiencing signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19 or has been diagnosed with COVID-19 must stay home and self-isolate until the criteria for re-entry has been met:

     • At least 24 hours without fever without the use of fever-reducing medication &
     • Improvement in symptoms &
     • At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

If the individual has symptoms that could be COVID-19 and wants to return to school before completing the stay at home period, the individual must obtain a healthcare provider’s note clearing the individual for the return based on an alternative diagnosis or obtain an acute infection test at an approved COVID-19 testing location (https://tdem.texas.gov/covid-19/) that comes back negative for COVID-19.

If a student or staff member has been in close contact with a person who has a lab-confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19, they must remain off campus for the 14 day incubation period from the date of last exposure as recommended by the CDC, TEA, and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (SAMHD). Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet for a cumulative duration of 15 minutes or being directly exposed to infectious secretions.

Following CDC & TEA guidelines, if a student or employee has tested positive for COVID-19, we will work with state and local health authorities to determine the proper course of action, which may include a temporary school closure to allow for deep cleaning and sanitizing of those areas heavily used by the individual with the lab-confirmed case, unless 7 or more days have passed since that person was on campus. During these situations, students will be able to transition into a 100% remote learning environment.

SWISD will notify all teachers, staff, and families of all students in a school if a lab-confirmed COVID-19 case is identified among those who have participated in any on-campus activities while abiding by legal confidentiality requirements.
