III. Learning Options

Southwest ISD is committed to providing opportunities for all learners to be confident, resilient, and successful global citizens when learning remotely or on-campus. In collaboration with our teachers, our goal is to provide exemplary lessons, support remote instruction, and ease our eventual transition back to on-campus instruction.

On-Campus Learning
This is the traditional classroom format, or when the instructor and the students are on campus and the teaching and learning takes place at the same time.

Remote Learning
nstruction does not require having the instructor and student engagement at the same time. In this method, students learn from instruction that is not necessarily in real-time. This type of instruction may include various forms of digital and online learning, such as prerecorded video lessons or game-based learning tasks that students complete on their own, and pre-assigned work and formative assessments made available to students on paper. The instructional method must address the required curriculum.

Making Your Choice
It is important to note that parents will be asked to commit to your choice for a full grading period, but will not have to make that commitment more than two weeks in advance, so they can make a decision based on the latest public health information.

Intervention and Support
The fourth quarter of last school year did present some challenges for students, families, and teachers. We are very proud of the work our schools did to provide high-quality lessons and educational activities in a remote environment. To provide support in transitioning from remote learning back to the physical classroom, teachers across the district are taking the following steps.
1.  All students will be assessed at the beginning of the year to determine academic gaps.
2.  Campuses will plan interventions for curricular coverage of academic learning gaps.
3.  Campuses will increase the amount of student support to address all academic needs.
