Virtual Learning Options

Thank you for your interest in SWISD’s virtual learning options.

We are excited to welcome your child back to school this fall. We know the best place for children to learn and to thrive is in school. We are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment, so we can welcome each and every student back to our classrooms.

Southwest ISD is creating virtual learning options for students ages 5-12 who meet eligibility requirements.  As an added support to our Southwest ISD community, we want to make these remote options available for families:

  • Virtual Learning - For students ages 5 - 12, who do not have the opportunity to receive the vaccine. Students must meet eligibility criteria for this option. Click here link with more information.

  •  Remote Conferencing - The student is unable to attend school because of a temporary medical condition. The total amount of remote conferencing instruction does not exceed more than 20 instructional days over the entirety of the school year. Remote Conferencing FAQ

  •  General Education Homebound - Must meet 3 specific criteria. Click here for more info.

  •  In-person learning - Preferred instructional setting for all students in grades PK-12. No response is needed.

What’s important to know:

  • Families must complete the virtual interest survey by Friday, August 13 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Southwest ISD will continue to implement health and safety protocol for the new school year at all of our schools. Aligned with the CDC’s recommendation that “children should return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place,” Southwest ISD is ready to open our doors and safely welcome your children back to school.

  • We recognize that our K–6 students cannot get vaccinated yet, so while we have taken every precaution to ensure our schools are safe, for students who need additional options we will now offer a virtual learning option.

  • Students will engage in virtual learning via Zoom and Google Classroom and receive direct, virtual teacher-led instruction.

  • Students opting for virtual learning will not be allowed to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities (athletics, fine arts, etc).

  • Core student services will be provided through both live interaction and independent work.

    • Examples of core student services: Academic instruction in math, reading/language arts, science and social studies, and necessary intervention services.

  • A commitment for the fall semester from families will be required.

  • To learn more, see our Virtual Learning Options FAQ

Virtual learning will not be available to the following:

  • Students eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine (ages 12 and up)

  • Pre-K and seventh- through 12th-grade students

  • Students who qualify for Homebound Services
