Why is Southwest ISD offering a virtual option?

The CDC says that in-class instruction is both safe and beneficial to children, and the focus from state and federal leaders continues to be to return to in-class instruction. However, we wanted to address the needs and concerns of our community.

Will students have to provide proof of a medical necessity to apply for the virtual learning option?

No, but students with medical conditions may qualify for Homebound Services

Why isn’t Southwest ISD providing a virtual learning option for some 6th-grade, and 7th- through 12th-grade students?

Students 12 and older are eligible for the vaccine.

Why isn’t Pre-K included in the virtual option?

For Pre-K students, virtual learning is not developmentally appropriate. Last year’s experience taught us that a student’s limited ability to utilize technology created significant challenges for learning and peer interactions in the virtual setting.

Are out-of-district students eligible for the Southwest ISD virtual learning option?

No. Virtual learning is only available to eligible Southwest ISD students. And, to qualify the student must have completed last school year (2020-2021) in a virtual learning venue.
