Dear SW Families,

I want to thank our families for their patience through this time of uncertainty. Through these last few weeks, the SWISD School Re-entry Task Force has been developing a plan for the 2020-2021 school year that will incorporate detailed instructional and safety guidelines for our families, while aligning with the recently released guidance from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

The TEA guidelines include protocols for instruction, health & safety, child nutrition, assessment, and many other important variables that will determine the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while providing high-quality learning. You can read more about the guidelines here on the TEA website: Public Health Guidance for School Year 2020 -2021. Though our plan is a work in progress, we can confirm that we will offer both face to face and remote instructional learning to our students. The School Re-Entry plan is scheduled for release during the next few weeks. The first day of school will remain on Monday, August 24, 2020.

During the interim, your input is important to us. We hope to gather your feedback through an organized series of virtual Town Hall’s scheduled within the next few weeks. We are also planning to conduct family surveys drawing the next two weeks and will release a pre-registration enrollment site to gather your official choice of which attendance option you prefer for your child(ren)- Face to Face or Remote. More information will be released on these events on our website, social media, and emailed to our parents this week.

Thank you for your trust, support, and patience as we continue to work towards making the best collective decisions for our students, parents, and staff.

Sincerely,

Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft

Superintendent of Schools
