Employee of the Month: Marissa Kohlrenken

Indian Creek Elementary 3rd-Grade Teacher Ms. Marissa Kohlrenken had a surprise visit from SWISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Jeanette Ball who was there to make a big announcement. Dr. Ball announced to Ms. Kohlrenken’s class that their teacher is Southwest ISD's first Employee of the Month Award recipient. Ms. Kohlrenken’s anonymous nominator describes why Marissa is deserving of this honor.

“Marissa is the most empathetic person I know. She has a way of connecting with the kids in a way that most people don't. She can put herself in their shoes and try to understand where they're coming from. Not only does Marissa look for ways to improve her practice academically, but she also looks for ways to improve her class culture. If you walk into her classroom, her kids will tell you that they're a family and they look out for each other. They are a cohesive group because their leader, Marissa, exemplifies that. She not only tells them how to be a family, but she also shows them. She's a team player and is always looking and offering to help.”

Congratulations Mrs. Kohlrenken!
