Southwest ISD Board of Trustees Approve 2% Raise for All Full-Time Employees and $1000 Retention Incentive

The Southwest Independent School District (SWISD) Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2024-2025 compensation plan package for teachers and staff during the regular board meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The plan includes a 2% raise for all full-time employees and a one-time retention incentive of $1000. The compensation plan shows that SWISD is dedicated to offering competitive pay to attract and keep the best educators.

“Our employees and educators are important to us, and we value their dedication to our students. As a board, we support them in every way we can. This compensation plan is one of the many ways we are demonstrating our commitment to always prioritizing each and every one of them,” stated Sylvester Vasquez Jr., President of the SWISD Board.

In addition to the raise, the Board of Trustees approved a retention incentive up to $1,000 for eligible employees. The incentive recognizes the hard work and dedication of SWISD staff.

"Investing in our teachers, even amidst budget constraints, shows our dedication to putting our people first. By valuing their hard work and providing deserved pay raises, we're working on making things better for the future by taking care of our teachers and the communities they work in.” said SWISD Superintendent Dr. Jeanette Ball.

Other highlights from the 2024-2025 Compensation Plan include:

  • New incoming teachers will receive an increased entry pay of $61,000
  • Bilingual teachers will receive a stipend that has increased to $3,000.
  • Bus Driver starting pay with the raise is $19
  • Clerical and Auxiliary starting pay is $16.10

The complete compensation plan is expected to incur a cost of approximately $4.6 million for the district.

Employees will receive the approved pay increase determined by their contract start date for the upcoming 2024-25 school year, with some employees even receiving the increase as early as July 2024.

All pay increases for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year will be based on the midpoint for each respective pay grade, ensuring fairness and consistency in implementing the plan.
