Dragonfire Dancers Celebrate New Studio Look and 40 Years
It’s Homecoming Weekend 2025 at Southwest High School, and what better way to celebrate than with the Dragonfire Dancers, who are marking their 40th anniversary with a brand-new studio look. Phase one of the renovation was funded by a $15,000 summer fundraiser and strong support from school leaders. DFD Coach Rubio-Garcia said the design highlights the team’s core values and is meant to inspire dancers for the long season ahead.DFD alumna Mariana Urbina (Class of 2024) said she is proud of the team’s growth, noting it has expanded from 15–20 members to more than 30. She believes the larger team shows how much the program has grown and earned respect over the years.Current members, including Nayeli Gomez and Juliana Stutter, also shared their excitement. Nayeli called the experience “heart-filling,” while Juliana said the new design reflects “the fire and pride of Southwest DFD.”The DFD team welcomed alumni back for a special luncheon and first look at the phase one renovation, a time to fellowship and celebrate the program’s new studio. Capping off the festivities will be a spirited homecoming performance by the current DFD squad, set to take place immediately after the Dragons football game. With support from alumni, students, and administrators, the Dragonfire Dancers are honoring their history while looking ahead to a bright future. Welcome home, DFD alumni, and Go Dragons!
