Board Recognitions

Selection of Student of the Month:
  • Each month, one elementary, secondary, and high school will rotate and select one outstanding student to be recognized at the monthly Board meetings.
  • Criteria for selection include achievements in academics, acts of service, and other notable contributions.
 
Extra Curricular Recognitions:
  • Any individual who qualifies for State Competition in all individual sports, band, choir, and art will be recognized at a board meeting as the best fit regarding time and space accommodations.
    • Athletics example: The student will compete on Friday at the UIL state Swimming and diving Meet. If possible, we would work to have the student recognized at the March School Board meeting.
    • Fine Arts example: Student whose art project qualifies for the state competition.  We would work to have the student recognized at the next available school board meeting.
  • In some instances, we may have more than one or two in sports such as Powerlifting or Track & Field.  We would work to have them all recognized at the next possible school board meeting.
  • Any CTE/STEM Programs that advance to Regionals and beyond or other competition approved by the CTE Department.
  • Any Advanced Academic national and state recognitions from the College Board.  Any student that advances to state competition in UIL or Academic Decathlon.
  • Teams:
    • Any athletic team or one-act play group that wins a district championship.
    • Any athletic team or one-act play group that advances to the regional tournament. 3rd Round for Football and 4th round for all other team sports. 
    • Any sport such as Swim, Track, Cross Country Golf, Tennis, or Powerlifting that wins a District, Regional, or State Championship as a Team as well as UIL Academics.  Marching Band that advances to the Area Finals. (Representatives will be recognized at a Board Meeting) 
    • Mariachi group that Advances to State Competition and receives a Division I rating at the State Competition. 
    • Teams will send player representatives with coaches/sponsors to receive the honor.
 
Special or Unique Recognitions (Students or Staff):
  • Nominations will be submitted for approval by Monday, two weeks before the Board Meeting.
    • Senior Staff and the Superintendent will then review requests for approval.
  • Approved recognitions will be notified the week before the board meeting.

Submission of Information:

  • Campus administration will submit the selected student's information by the Wednesday before the Board meeting.
  • The campus administration, coach, director, or sponsor will ensure the information is complete and accurate for inclusion in the Board Book.
 

Verification of Attendance:

  • Campuses will confirm that the student and their family know the meeting details.
 

Arrival Time:

  • All students and their families are asked to arrive by 5:45 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
  • Students may bring parents, guardians, or other family members.
 

Principal Attendance:

  • The principal of each student's school will be present at the Board meeting.
