SWISD Family Support Resources

SWISD is Here for Our Families
At Southwest ISD, we recognize that life can present unexpected challenges, including financial stress, job changes, and emotional strain, which can impact families in various ways. During times of uncertainty, our focus remains steady to support the well-being of every child and family in our community.

Our message is simple: How can we help?
"No child in Southwest ISD should go without a meal, support, or a sense of safety. We're here to listen, to help, and to walk alongside our families through whatever they may be facing." - Dr. Jeanette Ball, Southwest ISD Superintendent.

Our staff, including principals, counselors, social workers, and teachers, are here to recognize needs, offer support, and connect families with meaningful resources.

How SWISD Supports Families in Times of Need

Student Meals: No Child Goes Hungry

  • Free Courtesy Meals: If your child needs a meal, they will receive breakfast and/or lunch at no cost at all campuses this year.
  • Afternoon Meals: Southwest ISD is piloting an afternoon meal program, the last 10 minutes of the day at campuses, to ensure students have a nutritious meal prior to going to practice, riding the bus, or staying for an evening activity.  This will be available to all students at no additional charge.

Clothing Assistance: Clothes Closet

  • Families in need of clothing can receive items from the SWISD Clothes Closet. Campus counselors or social workers can provide referrals.
  • Additionally, through a grant, we have received brand-new shoes for our Clothes Closet to distribute to students.
  • You may either shop for your child or ask for help in gathering needed items.
  • Donations of new or gently used clothing, especially new socks, underwear, jeans, and coats, are always appreciated.
  • If your child is identified as homeless, additional funds and services are available.
  • To donate, please bring clothing to the SOS building 200 at Central Office or contact your campus social worker.

Emotional and Mental Health Support

  • If your child is showing signs of stress, anxiety, or emotional difficulty, our school counselors or social workers are here to help.
  • Southwest ISD provides at least one counselor and one social worker at each campus.
  • Please contact your school counselor or social worker to set up a check-in or support session.
  • Additionally, we offer the SW CARES Center for therapeutic counseling services to any student and their family members.  This is a free service to our community, made possible through a partnership with Bexar County.  You can request an appointment at 210-622-4340 or online by clicking here.

Employment Support

  • Looking for work? SWISD’s Human Resources team is ready to help. We’re actively hiring for a variety of roles, including substitute teachers, bus drivers, special education aides, and support staff.
Visit our Frontline Southwest ISD Portal to view openings and apply.

Food Support Beyond the Cafeteria

  • District Food Pantry: Our District offers an on-site food pantry for students and families. Contact your campus counselor or social worker for access. 210-622-4351
  • Southwest offers monthly food distribution in partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank from October through May.  This allows families to get boxes of food to take home once per month on specific dates throughout the year.

Military Family Resources and Information

  • Purple Star Designation: Every campus in our district has been designated as a Purple Star Awarded campus, offering services for our military-connected families.
