Southwest High School senior Joseph Herrera is making history as the first male captain of the Dragonfire Dance Team. A longtime goal of his, this leadership role reflects years of dedication, hard work, and passion for dance.

Herrera credits Dragonfire's welcoming culture for his success, describing the team as a close-knit family where students can be themselves and support one another. As captain, he hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions without limitations and show that leadership opportunities are available to anyone willing to put in the work.

By mentoring middle and high school students, Roan is sharing the passion, creativity, and sense of community that technical theater gave him during his own journey at Southwest High School.
